Hello my beautiful princes and princesses.!! :) Welcome to another blog post, today we are going to be talking about the famous 1931 silent film "City Lights" by Charlie Chaplin.
Why you should watch it:
This masterpiece is an all time classic movie. Charlie Chaplin, as a filmmaker and actor, is a hard working perfectionist and that is pretty obvious throughout the movie. It is easy to see that he put lots of effort in the creation and filming of this movie. The film is funny, witty, playful, emotional, romantic and visually pleasing, while it depicts beautifully the fashion, habits and lifestyle of the early 1930s to some extent. Charlie Chaplin as the Tramp is a charismatic performer, in a role that will certainly make you jiggle if not laugh at his silliness and clumsiness. At the same time, he remains a hopeless romantic whose kindness and good deeds help change other peoples lives, despite the fact that he ends up paying the price of his kind gestures. The Tramp is a remarkable, larger than life, shy and generous soul, a gentleman with good intentions.
This movie was filmed as a silent film, in an era when "talkies", the first movies with chatting instead of the words appearing on the screen, began to appear. Chaplin preferred to express himself and gave the chance to the other actors in the movie to express themselves as well through body language and facial expressions over talking. What makes this movie so special though in my opinion is its positivity and heartfeltness. Also, if you enjoy watching vintage movies from long ago with a well thought and well executed storyline you will be very pleased by it. All in all, City Lights is a graceful, touching, funny, and beautiful film that is worth your time and attention in every way.

This is probably the most touching Chaplin flick I have ever seen, maybe The Kid would provide some sort of strong, antagonistic value next to this beautiful, timeless, heart-wrenching movie. I have watched it rediculously way too many times since my early childhood and each time I notice something new, an overlooked detail, a new reason to love it all over again from the beginning, congratulations for your cinematic taste Elli ! :)
